Abby Birhanu

Bio: Abby (she/her) is an artist and educator with a passion for fostering creativity and confidence in her students. With experience teaching middle and high school, she believes deeply in the transformative power of art education. Abby embraces choice-based art and Teaching Artistic Behavior (TAB) pedagogy, empowering students to shape their artistic journey while nurturing their creativity.
Her involvement in the Fulbright Teachers Exchange Program, where she served as an exchange teacher to the United Kingdom, was a pivotal experience that reinforced her dedication to cross-cultural learning and teaching. Abby loves traveling and actively takes opportunities to engage in educational and cultural exchange opportunities.
As an advocate for equity and inclusivity in education, Abby is committed to anti-racist, anti-bias, and culturally responsive teaching. She strives to cultivate global citizens who appreciate and contribute to the interconnected world community.

Helpful Hints - be in the know! (What to wear? What to bring? Food/Bev details)
Start: The workshop begins at 9am each day.
End: The workshop ends at 3:45pm both days. This allows space for questions and casual conversation, off-site.
Bonus time: Monday evening, (around 3-6pm) you are invited to join us for a happy hour at the boat house. Please consider joining us for more informal TAB talk, appetizers, a trip to the art museum.
What to wear? Comfy clothes - casual
What to bring? Many participants find that having a laptop and phone are helpful.
About food and beverages:
A water bottle filling station will be onsite.
Want a different type of (school appropriate) beverage?

Graduate Credit from Lindenwood University is available for 2024.
Grad Credit is available for an additional fee. Enrollment and payment of fees is handled directly through Lindenwood. The fee for graduate credit is $75 per hour.

St. Louis Art Museum - One of the gems of St. Louis, SLAM contains three-stories of paintings, sculptures and cultural objects with both ancient and modern materpieces from all over the world. The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum is an art museum located on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis, within the university's Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. We also recognize pre-service teachers have limited funds.
We offer a financial incentives as listed below.
Teams of 4-7 people can register at a discounted rate of $250 per person.
Teams of 8 or more people can register at a discounted rate of $225 per person.
Students and pre-service teachers can register for $225 per person.

Refund/Cancellation Policy
We realize that extraordinary circumstances may affect your plans to attend. If we receive a request for cancellation by June 1, 2024, we can award either workshop credit or refund 100% of your registration fee. Refunds or credits for future workshops after that date will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
