The Fine Arts Missouri Educators FAME - Professional Learning Network served as a connection point for educators to learn from each other, and to learn about opportunities for their students through agencies and institutions engaged in supporting arts education.  This professional learning network is currently on hiatus.

May 14, 2024 Picture the Music: Inspire Creativity with Jessica Ingraham

Join Jessica Ingraham, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra's Director of Education, to explore simple and fun classroom activities that introduce students to the power of music as a means for self expression and emotional regulation. Ingraham will share ideas to make the creative process less intimidating and help students build confidence to make the most of their Picture the Music experience. Picture the Music is the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra's cross-curricular arts program for students in grades K-6. Through listening to music and expressing their feelings through painting or drawing, students learn to process their emotions in new and healthy ways.  

Jessica Ingraham has proudly served the music education community for more than fifteen years. Currently the Director of Education for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Jessica oversees the symphony’s portfolio of school programming. She began her career in music education teaching in the St. Charles City Schools in St. Charles, MO. And most recently, Jessica founded Different Dynamics, a non-profit that champions access to the life-changing power of music for people of all neurotypes and abilities.

Springfield Ballet's Emily Walley describing how the nonprofit organization is carrying out its mission of advancing the art of ballet through premier education, performance, outreach and collaboration. She will discuss Springfield Ballet's recent initiatives to make dance accessible to people who might not have the opportunity to experience ballet.

Bio Info

Emily Walley began her dance training at a young age and has been passing on her passion for dance through teaching at Springfield Ballet since January of 2019. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Elementary Education through Missouri State University and is currently completing her certification in Gifted & Talented Education. She gained experience in arts integrated education while student teaching at Springfield Little Theatre’s Fine & Performing Arts Academy and is now Education Programs Coordinator at Springfield Ballet.

Presenters Kira Hegeman, and  Latausha Cox, from the Saint Louis Art Museum will discuss gallery tours and activities to encourage student voice and address bias through engaging with artworks from a variety of makers and social contexts. Highlights from SLAM student programs including Arts in the Basic Curriculum, and a pilot program for No Place for Hate, in partnership with the Anti-Defamation League.

Bio Info

Kira Hegeman, PhD, Associate Educator, Teacher and Student Learning Kira oversees the Museum’s teacher and student learning initiatives at the St. Louis Art Museum, programs and resources for Pre-K-12 educators and students, and some university audiences. Kira holds a PhD in Art Education from the University of Georgia with a focus on social practice and community engagement, and a specialization in printmaking and book arts. Kira has taught visual art, environmental education, and art education to youth, adults, and university audiences both in the United States and overseas in Thailand, South Africa and England.  @kirahegeman

Latausha Cox, Assistant Educator, Teacher and Student Learning - Latausha Cox is the Assistant Educator for Teacher and Student Learning at the Saint Louis Art Museum. She leads school programs at the Museum that include Arts in the Basic Curriculum (ABC), Exploring with the Artist, and more. Latausha has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and Master of Arts in Education and will continue her graduate studies this fall. She recently became a Community Arts Training (CAT) Fellow in June 2023 through the Regional Arts Commission of Saint Louis.  @taushacreates

Meet Bonnie Thomas, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Bonnie Thomas, Manager of Educator Programs and Resources at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. Bonnie runs the museum’s Educator Resource Center (a lending library for teachers) and creates resources and programming to help educators incorporate museum objects into their teaching. Join us to learn about the museum’s virtual learning offerings that can be accessed by any educator across the state! We’ll be discussing virtual field trips, professional development, and online resources.

 

ERC Summer Availability

The ERC’s current public hours will continue through the summer months. We are open Thursdays and Fridays from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Trailblazers in Opera

OTSL’s new interactive lesson series spotlights distinguished past and present Black opera singers who blazed the trail both in opera and in American history. Each curriculum package highlights the life and contributions of an individual singer with lessons and activities keyed to state standards, supplementary video content, and the opportunity to host a live virtual visit in your classroom with a contemporary opera professional. Andy Ament, Jazz St. Louis

Andy Ament is a graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, with Bachelor’s of Music degrees in Jazz Performance and Music Education. He performs all over St. Louis and the Midwest with various jazz, pop, rock, funk, and dance bands. He has performed with such notable artists as Randy Brecker, Clay Jenkins, Reggie Thomas, Dennis Mackrel, and Motown legend Martha Reeves, to name a few. He is also a founding member of the jazz quartet, Utter Chaos, which pays tribute to the great baritone saxophonist, Gerry Mulligan. As an educator, Andy has worked with students all over the St. Louis region as a clinician, instructor, and adjudicator. He has worked as an instructor at numerous jazz camps, including camps at St. Louis University High School and the Birch Creek Performing Arts Center in Door County, WI. He was also selected to present at the 2019 Missouri Music Educators Association conference and to direct one of the Illinois District VI all-district jazz bands in 2020. Andy began working with Jazz St. Louis in 2008 as an instructor for their JazzU program and as a consultant in developing various educational programs and materials before becoming a permanent part of the education staff in 2014. He is currently finishing his Master’s of Education degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, specializing in diversity and equity in education.
