Video Guidelines 2024
SUBMIT YOUR VIDEOS of the following:
Individual student or small ensemble less than 5 minutes in length
Large ensemble performing groups 5 to 10 minutes in length
Display (formerly static displays) lighting designs, costume design, set design, etc. 5 min. max
Teacher/Learning Activities (video or still photos) 3 min. max
Videos should be submitted in mp4 format. All videos should include a banner at the bottom with details on the performance (work performed, performers, school, date of recording, etc). If you do not have the technical skills required to do this it can be added after submission.

Reports from recent Fine Arts Education Day
2023 Fine Arts Education Day
On March 22, 2023, nearly 700 students, family members and other supporters of arts education journeyed to Jefferson City on March 21-22, 2023 to join in MAAE's annual event to celebrate the Arts in Missouri. Beginning on Tuesday evening with our SHOW-ME Arts (SMarts) Student Advocacy Training Summit held at the Doubletree Hotel in Jefferson City, and led by Coordinator, Andrea Branstetter, where students worked with coaches as they learned about arts advocacy and practiced their elevator speeches, so helpful when meeting with legislators the next day. After a restful night's sleep, and breakfast-to-go, we greeted Missouri Senators and honored the 34 student artists, their teachers and members of their families selected to be a part of the Senate Student Arts Exhibit on display throughout the coming year. We honored winners of our Grades 3-12 Essay Contest, and recipients of the 2023 Arts Education Excellence Awards. Engaging rotunda performances thrilled audiences from noon-1pm and the concerts continued through the early afternoon on the South Steps of the Capitol Building. A pizza lunch was enjoyed by all.
2022 Fine Arts Education Day returns IN PERSON
Fine Arts Education Day returned to an IN PERSON celebration in 2022 after a virtual celebration in 2021, due to the ongoing COVID Pandemic.
On March 23, 2022, nearly 500 students, family members and other supporters of arts education journeyed to Jefferson City on March 22-23, 2022 to join in MAAE's annual event to celebrate the Arts in Missouri. Beginning on Tuesday evening with our SHOW-ME Arts (SMarts) Student Advocacy Training Summit held at the Doubletree Hotel in Jefferson City, and led by Coordinator, Andrea Branstetter, where students worked with coaches as they learned about arts advocacy and practiced their elevator speeches, so helpful when meeting with legislators the next day. Highlights included remarks from Missouri's 2022 Teacher of the Year and music educator, James Young, and a song performed by Representative Peter Meredith as part of his acceptance speech. We also welcomed student performers from Bradleyville High School, Helias High School, Kickapoo High School, Logan-Rogersville Upper Elementary, Rolla Middle School, Strafford High School and Sullivan High School, and combined all performers in a finale arrangement of "America the Beautiful" conducted by MAAE Chair and Fine Arts Education Day Coordinator, Jeff Sandquist. Inclement weather caused the cancelation of outdoor performance events, and the festivities came to a close with a pizza lunch for participants.

WHAT is Fine Arts Education Day?
Once each year, Missouri's fine arts teachers, students and families unite in Jefferson City, Missouri at the Capitol building for an exciting celebration of arts education in Missouri - sponsored by MAAE. Fine Arts Education Day welcomes student performers from across the state to help highlight the arts. Visual arts displays line the hallways of the third floor of the capitol, and student performances ring out in the First Floor Capitol Rotunda, the Carnahan Governor's Garden east of the Capitol building, and sometimes include the exterior steps of the capitol building and/or out onto the capitol lawn!
It's a performance opportunity
It's an awards ceremony - and a chance to recognize those who support the arts and student excellence.
It's a history lesson and exploration of stunning architecture
It's a chance to learn more about state government and meet your legislators
It's a chance to help decision-makers be reminded of the value of arts education.

A Brief History
Since 2004, The Missouri Alliance for Arts Education has sponsored a Fine Arts Education Day at the Missouri State Capitol since 2004. Unfortunately, In 2020, the event was slated for April 1, but with the COVID-19's global pandemic, in-person events such as this were canceled. Undaunted, we are currently making plans for the 2021 event and will update this site as details become available.
Students often make appointments to meet their legislators, sharing how the arts benefit them personally. They frequently bring artwork, photographs, playbills, DVDs and CDs to present to their legislators during the visits.
CVPA students were invited by the Missouri Alliance for Arts Education to dance on the steps of the state capitol in this suit they made, which was inspired by the work of artist Nick Cave.
WHY we do it?
Fine Arts Education Day is an effective means of highlighting the importance of fine arts education in Missouri schools. During a typical FAED, the Missouri State Capitol building is alive with vocal and instrumental ensemble performances, dance groups and theatrical presentations. Not only is it great fun and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the arts through performance and exhibition, but it helps underscore the value of the arts and arts education for students across Missouri.
The arts enrich lives daily.
The arts deepen connections with others, leading to improved health and well-being.
They benefit Missouri's economy.
The arts help students gain the skills they need to prepare for a successful future.
