Professional Development for Teachers

The Missouri Alliance for Arts Education is seeking 5 school districts in which we can provide an Understanding by Design through the Arts Professional Development Seminar for up to 20 teachers at each location.  The MAAE will provide all materials and will provide substitute reimbursements to the districts for the substitute teachers needed for the participants.

After the 2010-2011 seminars, teachers were asked is the seminar met their expectations, here are a few of their responses:

Yes! I know now how to create an arts-based unit that can be assessed appropriately. I started the day with no knowledge of UBD or what creating a unit involved. Now I am aware of the process and feel like I can take what I learned today and create further units. I also really like that this is not simply another approach, strategy or theory to overwhelm me as I teach, but a way to take what I am already teaching and build it into a quality learning experience for students involving arts based lessons, with appropriate assessment.

Yes, because she went step by step. The process seemed easier. I think that the seminar was wonderful and needs to be shared with more teachers.

Yes, Ms. Debbie was excellent in knowledge, information and presentation. The class was awesome.

Yes! The questions helped me focus on what assessment is needed. It was very well done; calm, friendly, methodic, structured, complete and thorough.

The seminar exceeded my expectations! It was motivating and it was a great experience to actually CREATE something instead of walking out with overwhelming theories.
